Why that prevents a break-in

An outdoor sensor sees someone on the grounds and immediately triggers the loud outdoor siren. It sounds outside, not somewhere indoors. The whole surroundings hear that something is wrong: you, the neighbours, and the intruder.

A burglar needs silence and time. Once the siren sounds, that silence is gone. He is still outside. The house has not been touched. Everyone nearby knows he is there. That is why he does not complete the break-in, and looks for a house where nothing happens.
