We think renting an alarm system is a waste of money. To make a comparison: You don’t rent the sofa in your living room either.
Now sit comfortably on this sofa for 40 euros a month. Where it then says in the small print of the contract that every year the cost can go up, and you might pay 60 euros a month after just a few years.

We often remove the old still active alarm systems from national providers during the installation of our new alarm. So we deliberately create a tamper alarm by removing the existing alarm system. The result is often nothing… No response at all.

Tip from the police: Call the police yourself, they will always come to see, and respond to any report.
We have talked to the police themselves about this and they too indicate that an emergency room only costs money and is a delaying factor in the whole thing.

You should not have the installation done by inexperienced technicians who should only come and secure a home with fixed basic packages.

Always research a company because:
Lots of advertising and salespeople driving around do not guarantee quality
Increasingly, you see cars driving around with alarm system representatives in them. These people are real salesmen: pushy, and only out to sell. You sign their contract and then you are no longer their problem.
Promises are made that are not allowed or possible, and when you need the company in an emergency, they are not there or do not fulfil the agreements made. Simply avoid this by not being persuaded by all the fancy sales pitches of such people, and doing thorough research on a company beforehand.

Most important of all: Don’t be scared, and don’t let anything be forced on you
People with alarm systems for which they have to pay monthly indicate that they actually entered into the subscription under duress and were frightened by the representative at the door. Due to constant pressure from these salespeople, many people do not know exactly what they are signing up for, let alone what system they will be renting. Product explanations are secondary to signing the contract.
Adding to this, we also hear daily from other people that something often happens at the house on the day itself or shortly after a representative from an alarm system provider has been at the door. After a few days, the same representative will come to the door again and ask whether you are really sure you don’t need an alarm system. So suddenly there are strange people fidgeting at your back door, or suddenly the bicycle is taken from your garden, or the doorbell is stolen…. We have all heard it said and even experienced it ourselves. So don’t trust anyone at your door, because the iron must be forged while it is hot.
The seller is not there for you, but for his own commission
Look beyond the aggressive sales parties. Look sceptically at what they offer. Is it even possible? Does it make sense? Or does it all look very nice, but you sign a deal you are less than happy with after an incident? Do they have easily accessible customer service in your own language, or just an accessible sales team? Do research before outsourcing part of your security to a company. Are they doing it for the money, or are they doing it for you? Of course, a healthy combination is not a disaster either.
